Russian tourists DO NOT WANT luxury hotels in Alanya anymore
Hotel preferences of tourists have changed in Russia, which is the most tourist-attracting destination in Alanya . Tourism paradise Alanya hosts millions of Russian tourists every year. Russian tourists had to change their hotel preferences due to the impact of the economic crisis in Turkey. Hotel preferences have changed as the prices of luxury hotels hurt tourists’ pockets.
PEGAS Touristik’s CIS countries coordinator, Orhan Sancar, said that they predict that the tourist flow from Russia to Turkey will increase by 20 percent in the period between May and October compared to the same period last year. Sancar said, “We expect a 20 percent increase in the number of tourists coming from Russia to the seaside resorts of Antalya, Bodrum and Dalaman during this period. “As of today, we have sold 450 thousand tours using early booking promotions,” he said.
Stating that price policies in Turkey have changed in the last two years and inflation has increased to 65 percent annually, this year’s growth will mainly come from the demand for 4- and 5-star economic hotels, Sancar said, “Inflation rates affect hotel prices. “The occupancy rate of luxury hotels has dropped below 50 percent,” he said.
According to Sancar, luxury hotels in Turkey are also making more active sales this year. But the luxury segment will most likely not be a serious driver of growth in tourist flows. Premium hotels’ share of tour operator sales now varies between 5% and 7% of the total tour volume sold across different players.
