Russia Reacts to Trump-Zelensky Debate: “We Welcome It”

The tension between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been closely monitored by Russia. Kremlin officials have made successive statements regarding the discussion in the Oval Office, stating that they welcome the process.

Harsh Statements from Russian Officials

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, commenting on Trump’s attitude towards Zelenskyy in a post on his Telegram account, said, “There was a brutal rebuke in the Oval Office.” Medvedev harshly criticized Zelenskyy, arguing that the Ukrainian leader was “playing games” with World War III.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova, in her assessment of the discussion, implied that Trump and US Vice President JD Vance had difficulty refraining from physically intervening against Zelenskiy on live television, saying, “This is a miracle.”

Kremlin Officials: Zelensky’s Political End Is Near

Former Kremlin adviser Sergei Markov said the Oval Office row would have a negative impact on Zelensky’s political career. Markov said some Russian officials had been waiting for the process to end for a long time and believed that peace talks would be easier with a different leader.

Konstantin Kosachyov, the deputy chairman of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, claimed that this incident revealed Zelensky’s true face. Kosachyov used harsh words towards the Ukrainian leader, saying, “Zelenskiy lost this round and will have to crawl on his knees to the next round.”
